Using the title “Imam” with the names of Sayyidina Hasanayn (R.A.)
Question: What is the ruling on using the title “Imam” with the names of Sayyidina Hasanain (R.A)?
Answer: The word Imam means leader and guide. In this sense, Ahl-e-Sunnah regard all the Companions of the Prophet (R.A) and even some of the Tabi’een as Imams. However, it should also be noted that in Shia terminology, the term Imam refers to someone who is infallible and have knowledge of the unseen. In this specific meaning, it is not permissible to call any Companion (R.A) or others an Imam. Therefore, in situations where using the title Imam with the names of Sayyidina Hasanain (R.A) could lead to misconceptions about such beliefs, it should be avoided.
