Attending and organizing gatherings of mourning for Sayyidna Hasanayn (R.A)

Question: Is it permissible to organize a gathering of mourning, such as on the occasion of the martyrdom of Sayyidina Hasanayn (R.A) or their passing, especially on the day of Ashura?

Answer: Organizing gatherings of mourning for anyone is not permissible because the command is to be patient and to alleviate grief. Consolation and expressing sympathy are meant to provide relief from sorrow, so creating or reviving grief goes against this and becomes sinful. Moreover, gathering people to discuss the martyrdom of Sayyidina Hasanayn (R.A) resembles the practices of the Shi'a, and imitating them is prohibited. Hence, organizing gatherings of mourning is not permissible. Likewise, participating in their gatherings is also not allowed.
