Ruling on an Imam who performed the marriage ceremony of a Sunni girl to a Shia:
Question: What do the Islamic scholars and Muftis of Shariyah say about the following issue that our Imam performed the marriage ceremony of a Sunni girl to a Shia boy and he says that he did not know that this boy was a Shia. Now how is it for us to offer prayer behind him, accepting him as Imam?
Answer: If the Imam did not know about the beliefs of this Shia, for example: slandering Sayyidah Aisha Siddiqah (R.A), or believing in the distortion of the Quran, or denying the companionship of the two Caliphs (R.A), or believing in the divinity of Sayyiduna Ali (R.A), or that Hazrat Gabriel (A.S) made a mistake in revelation, etc., then it is necessary to repent for him and after repentance, it is correct to pray behind him.
