Ruling on Marrying a Shia and Their Slaughter (Zabiha):

Question: What do the scholars of Islam say about this issue, In our city, the Shia community is involved in the meat business. Some butchers who slaughter goats are Shia. Please provide a fatwa on whether Sunni Muslims can eat their slaughter as permissible.

Answer: Mulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi (رحمہ اللہ) states that there is a difference of opinion among the scholars of Ahl-e-Sunnah regarding the permissibility of slaughter of Shia. The established view is that it is halal, but I have not yet been convinced of this. Some consolation can be in this issue that kufr is ordered. In the first order of Islam, someone must be cautious in his own dealings, and in the second order he must be cautious in dealings with other Muslims. So in  both orders must be the most careful. Therefore, we will not permit marriage with them, nor will we follow their leadership, nor will we eat their slaughter, nor will we follow their political ideology. If we have the ability to investigate their beliefs, we will do so, and after investigation, we will make a decision based on the evidence. If we do not have the ability to investigate, we will remain silent and leave the matter to Allah Almighty.
