Ruling on the Marriage of a Sunni Girl to a Shia Boy
Ruling on the Marriage of a Sunni Girl to a Shia Boy:
Question: What do the scholars of Islam and Muftis of Shariah say about the following situation: A Sunni girl belongs to Hanafi school of thought. Her family wants to marry her with cousion and she has been engaged , but the boy and his family are Shia and hold Shia beliefs. The girl's family wants to force her to marry him, but she does not want to marry him due to his Shia beliefs. Please guide us in the light of Shariah.
Answer: The Ja'fari Shia, 12 Imami Shia, hold beliefs that are considered kufr (disbelief) and are therefore outside the circle of Islam. It is not permissible for a Muslim girl to marry a non-Muslim boy. Therefore, the marriage of the Sunni girl to the Shia boy is not permissible according to Shariah, provided that the boy holds beliefs that are considered kufr.
