To sever ties with those who commit polytheism (Shirk) and heresy (bid'ah)
Question: What is the Shariah ruling for those who deliberately commit polytheism and heresy?
Answer: Polytheism is the greatest sin, and the Quran warns of its unforgivability. If there's an Islamic government and a Muslim commits polytheism or apostasy, refuses to repent, and persists in their apostasy despite warnings, the Islamic government will execute them. If heresy doesn't lead to polytheism or apostasy, the perpetrator will be punished (ta'zir). Since implementing these rulings is challenging without an Islamic government, one should sever ties with the polytheist, including familial relationships, greetings, and social interactions. Similarly, one should sever ties with the heretic, so they may repent out of desperation.
