Assigning the presidency of an Islamic gathering to a non-Muslim
Question: In Naseerabad, some individuals assigned the presidency of a three-day gathering on the Prophet's (ﷺ) biography to an infidel and polytheist for three consecutive days. Is this action of the group in accordance with or contrary to Islamic law?
Answer: The president sometimes has to critique the speeches of the speakers or criticize some of the speakers' statements. Therefore, for a specific gathering, a person who is an expert in the purpose of the gathering and its related matters is suitable for the presidency. Moreover, in religious gatherings, it is appropriate to make a person with a distinguished religious status the president.
Consequently, the selection of those people was improper and inappropriate. Assigning the presidency of an Islamic gathering to a non-Muslim is not permissible.
