Ruling on attending non-Muslim festivals for trade purposes
Question: Is it permissible to attend a Hindu festival for trade purposes?
Answer: If there is a necessity to attend the festival to buy or sell something that is not available elsewhere, then it is permissible to attend. However, attending without a necessity is not recommended. Participating in such gatherings is a sign of disapproval from Allah, and joining them is like taking a share in divine disobedience. Although the sin may not be as great as that of the festival organizers, it is still not without consequence. When one participates in disobedience despite knowing it is disliked, how can those who participate willingly be excused?
