Ruling on working for non-Muslims

Question: Is it permissible to work for non-Muslims?

Answer: There are three scenarios regarding working for non-Muslims:

(1) Permissible without any dislike, such as working for the establishment of rights, removal of evil and corruption, protection from thieves and robbers, construction of bridges, inns, and other beneficial buildings.

(2) Permissible but with dislike, such as taking up a job that requires standing before non-Muslims and showing respect, which may lead to the humiliation and disrespect of a Muslim, such as working as a servant or guard.

(3) Prohibited, such as working in jobs that involve sinful, forbidden, or prohibited activities, such as joining a military or police force that fights against Muslims.
