Ruling on a non-Muslim living in a mosque's room

Question: Is it permissible for a non-Muslim farmer, who is a guardian of trees, etc., to live in a room (which is outside the mosque's boundaries)?

Answer: It is not suitable to allow a non-Muslim to live in a mosque's room, even if it is for the purpose of protecting the waqf trees. However, if there is a room in the mosque's courtyard, where farming, etc., takes place, it is permissible to give a room to a non-Muslim to live in, as these rooms are usually built for the mosque's needs, such as for the muezzin, students, or a caretaker who is responsible for protecting the mosque's property, even if he is a non-Muslim. The needs of the mosque and the people who work for the mosque are two separate things, and one cannot be included in the other.
