Having devotion to an heretical spiritual guide (Peer) is reprehensible

A woman approached Hazrat Hakim al-Ummat (رحمتہ اللہ علیہ), previously she was devoted to an heretical Peer. Hazrat (رحمتہ اللہ علیہ) asked her if she still had devotion to the previous Peer. She replied that she had love for him but not devotion. Hazrat (رحمتہ اللہ علیہ) responded: 'If you have love but not devotion, what's the harm?' People keep partridges or sparrows as pets, they have love for them but not devotion. If it's like that with an innovative Peer, what's the harm? The poor woman has spoken the truth, that she has love but not devotion.'
