- Muslim states—’Abdul Malik ibn Shu’ayb ibn al Layth ibn Sa’d narrated to us—my father narrated to me—from my grandfather—’Uqayl ibn Khalid narrated to me—from Ibn Shihab—from Yahya ibn Sa’id ibn al ‘As—Sa’id ibn al ‘As informed him—Aisha radiya Llahu ‘anha, wife of the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, and ‘Uthman radiya Llahu ‘anhu narrated to him:
Abu Bakr requested entry upon the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam while the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam was recumbent on his mattress, covered by A’ishah’s shawl. He was permitted entry while the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam remained in his position. Abu Bakr addressed the matter he intended to discuss with the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam and left. ‘Umar requested entry and was permitted while the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam was in the same position. After addressing the matter he intended to discuss he left.
‘Uthman radiya Llahu ‘anhu states, “Then I requested entry, upon my request the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam sat up. He said to Aisha gather your clothes. I discussed what I intended to discuss with him and left.”
Aisha said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, why were you conservative in dealing with ‘Uthman more than what you were with Abu Bakr and ‘Umar?’
The Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam replied, ‘‘Uthman is a shy person, had I met him in my previous condition he would have shied away from addressing his need.’”[1]
