- Muhammad ibn Abi al Fath ibn ‘Abdul Rahman al Khutabi narrated to us—Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Abi al Muzaffar al Sam’ani narrated to us—Muhammad ibn ‘Abdul Karim ibn al Khushaysh and others narrated to us—Abu al Hassan Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn Ibrahim narrated to us—Ismail ibn Muhammad al Saffar narrated to us—Hassan ibn ‘Arafah narrated to us—Muhammad ibn al Qasim al Asadi narrated to us—from Al Awza’i—from Hassan ibn ‘Attiyah:
The Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said, “O ‘Uthman, May Allah forgive whatever you have done or might do; done publicly, privately or ostensibly and whatever was and will be until the Day of judgement.”[1]
[1] The isnad is Matruk (suspected of being forged). Hassan ibn ‘Arafah narrates it in his Juz’ (47) from Muhammad ibn al Qasim al Asadi. Imam Ahmed narrates in Fada’il al Sahabah (736) and Ibn Abi Shaibah in his Musanaf (32050) from Muhammad ibn al Qasim al Asadi.
Muhammad ibn al Qasim was suspected of lying by Ahmed, Abu Dawood, al Daraqutni; and many other scholars deemed him weak. Tahdhib al Tahdhib, 3/678. It has a weak collaboration in Kitab al Du’afa’ of al ‘Uqayli, 6/369, from ‘Ali ibn al Saqar al Sukkari—from Yahya ibn Sulaiman al Muharibi—from Mis’ar—from ‘Attiyah—from Abu Sa’id. Yahya ibn Sulaiman is a weak narrator. Al ‘Uqayli said, “His narrations are not Sahih and have no collaboration.”
