The sun has not risen nor set on anyone after the Prophets and Messengers better than Abu Bakr

ما طلعت الشمس و لا غربت على أحد بعد النبيين و المرسلين خير من أبي بكر

The sun has not risen nor set on anyone after the Prophets and Messengers better than Abu Bakr.

Its isnad is da’if. Ahmed narrated it.[1]

One of the narrators is ‘Abdullah ibn Sufyan.

Abdullah ibn Sufyan

Al ‘Uqayli remarks, “His ahadith are uncorroborated.”[2]

Ibn Jurayj

He is ‘Abdul Malik ibn ‘Abdul ‘Aziz ibn Jurayj. He is a mudallis. Ibn Hajar listed him in the third level of mudallisin.

Baqiyyah al Wasiti

He is also guilty of tadlis.

The Rawafid challenge this hadith with Sayyidina Abu Bakr’s radiya Llahu ‘anhu statement the day he assumed caliphate:

وليت عليكم و لست بخيركم

I have assumed authority over you but I am not the best of you.

They object: How could he belie Rasulullah’s salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam statement about him?

Firstly, al Bazzar narrates this statement in his Musnad from *Bahlul ibn ‘Ubaid al Kindi al Kufi*. He then states, “Bahlul is not reliable. Due to this, we have not included it in the Musnad of Abu Bakr due to this flaw.”[3]

Abu Zur’ah al Razi says, “I discarded his Hadith.”[4]

Abu Hatim al Razi labelled him da’if.[5]

Ibn Sa’d narrated it from ‘Ubaidullah ibn Musa.

Ubaidullah ibn Musa

He is a Kufi with shia ideologies.[6]

Ahmed ibn Hambal says, “Every calamity comes from the side of ‘Ubaidullah ibn Musa.”[7]

Ibn ‘Asakir narrated it in Tarikh Dimashq from Yahya ibn Salamah ibn Kuhayl.

Yahya ibn Salamah ibn Kuhayl

Al Bukhari said, “There are discrepancies in his hadith.”[8]

He also labelled him munkar al hadith.[9]

Al ‘Ijli says, “He was extreme in tashayyu’.”[10]

Al Nasa’i called him matruk al hadith.[11]
